Announcing our Winter 2011 “Urban Exposure” Photography Exhibit and Workshop at the Carriage House

Category: Miscadmin @ 9:39 pm

Hope there are street photographers who are out shooting in our winter weather…If not, the next few weeks are the peak time in DC for snow, so get your camera and hip flask and take some great photographs to exhibit in our Winter 2011 show!

Of course, if you have some images of Washington in the Spring and Summer, that works too, as we will all be looking forward to that by mid-February.

“We took a walk for a few minutes together. The street became his photographs.” Bruce Davidson on Henri Cartier-Bresson

“There are things hidden for all the world until photographed.” – Craig Coverdale

“Wander aimlessly most of the time” – Melanie Einzig

You are invited to submit your work for the Urban Landscape and Street Photography Show!

We now announce the start of our 2011 exhibit season with a new open call each month.

It’s an excellent chance to get your photography out there, as well as network with other people involved in DC arts’ scene.

We will also be initiating our first Street Photography Workshop series at the Urban Exposure Exhibit on the weekend of Feb. 25 – 27th!

Inspired by the changing urban landscape of our capital, the rebirth of such neighborhoods as U St. and H St., we ask local photographers to pull out the images that reflect this transformation.

Reportage, street portraits, social documentary, abstract cityscape – all genres are welcomed!

Work will be evaluated based both on creative and technical ability.

Opening weekend: February 25 – 27

Reception: February 25, 7 pm to 10 pm

Submission Deadline: Feb. 13 th The call is opened to all legal residents of Maryland, Virginia and District of Columbia, 18 years and older.

Please send up to 5 images (jpeg, 1200 pixels x 1200 pixels max) to info@dcphotocoop.com along with the titles and your contact info (name, address, e-mail, phone number).

The submission fee is $25 and you can pay by using the RSVP link for this event. If chosen, you will be asked to upload the original file to our server. Please, keep in mind that your image should be at least 16×20 inches at 300 ppi but no larger than 40×50 inches at 300 ppi.

Due to the limited time frame, Carriage House stuff will handle all printing and installation. We do not accept any mail-in submissions. Your submission fee will be credited towards the cost of the print for the show made on our Epson 9900 printer ($75 for a 40”x30” photograph). After the show is over, you can keep the print! If you can’t pick it up, we will mail it to you within two weeks (the artist pays shipping charges).

We produced a Catalog of our 2010 exhibits which we are currently publishing, including 30 great photographs from 15 photographers who showed their work in our 2010 exhibition series. If you are selected for this or any other upcoming shows during 2011, you will get a chance to compete for a place in “the best of the best” DC Foto Week gallery show at the Carriage House in November, 2011.

We are also promoting the work of photographers whose work has been exhibited at the Carriage House for display in coffee shops, restaurants, bars, and other locations in the DC Metro area. All work will be judged by the current members of DC Photo Cooperative and Carriage House staff and invited jurors.
