(Companion Events: Gallery Talk Sept. 25th, Fashion Photography Workshop- Sept 26th, 2010)

We are announcing our next show, the second annual DC Fashion Photographer’s Exhibition! Last years show was cited in DCist as one of the “top events” in DC during DC Foto Week and attended by over 200 people. We had outstanding work exhibited by photographers Bo Zhang, and Vadim Zee among others. We have changed the date to coordinate with DC Fashion Week, when there will be many fashionistas in town.

You are invited to submit your work for this FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY photo show! It is the part of our 2010/2011 monthly photography exhibition season, and part of a series featuring urban, fashion, dance and figurative photography exhibits.

This show is now an annual event, and the best work at exhibited at the fashion photography show will be exhibited at future pop-up gallery exhibits we are planning in the Mid-Atlantic region and of course at our annual show during DC Fotoweek in November.

Participating in this exhibit will help you to prepare for major local art events, network at our reception and gallery lectures, as well as learn more about gallery practices and professional presentation of your artwork.

Submission Guidelines:

Content may be any image in the realm of fashion photography, and winners will be selected based on the following selection criterion: 1) overall best image, 2) concept and 3) technical merit. The exhibit will be judged by three individuals with background in the fashion and photography industry who will be announced shortly. The top 3 selections in each category will receive a complementary shoot at the Carriage House studio during the 60 days following the exhibit. Participants whose work is not selected will also have their work displayed on a wide-screen display.

All images must be received by 11 pm on Mon, September 13th. You may send up to 4 jpegs (1200 px x 1200 px max) for consideration.

The registration/submission fee for the exhibit is $20 and should be paid via Pay Pal when you register at:

http://www.meetup.com/The-Carriage-House-Studio/calendar/14498697/

Images should be submitted by email to: events@dcphotocoop.com.

If your image(s) are among the 25 selected for the exhibition you will be asked to upload a jpeg or tiff file to our photo-sharing web-site. You agree that we will do the prints for you on archival paper on our Epson 9900 wide carriage printer. Your submission/registration fee of $20 will be applied towards the cost of printing your image or images that are selected for the show. After the show is over, the prints are of course yours to keep!

Please, keep in mind that images will be printed LARGE, about 30″ by 30″ or 30” by 40” at 300 dpi. Along with your submission, send us your contact info and the title of the image.

Each selected image will be printed in two sizes:

19″ x 13″ – portfolio size for promotional use

30″ x 40″ or 30″ x 30″ – gallery size for artist

The printing cost (including the exhibition discount) is as follows:

If your photograph(s) is selected, payment is due by Monday the 20th, four days before the show starts.

In the future, we plan to exhibit the best images from the show during DC Fotoweek, and highlight the selected images on our website at Carriage House Studio and Gallery Websitewell as produce a printed catalog.

IMPORTANT: Gallery Assistants and Sponsors needed!

We need people who can help with 1) publicity and outreach 2) graphic design, 3) setting up and taking down the exhibit, and 4) exhibition/event logistics. We are also interested in having sponsors for the exhibit, or who have venues that would like to exhibit fashion photography. Please contact us if interested!

One of the main events we hosted was our fashion photography workshop/photoshoot/tutorial. Bo Zhang of www.boandbro.com hosted the workshop with Kim Gray giving a makeup artists view on fashion photography.

We were able to set up two indoor photostudios in Studio B, one for headshots, the other for full length fashion. The workshop was open to 10 photographers and we had 2 professional models Diana and Emoni. The workshop was set up so that we were able to switch between the stations, models and really use and experiment various styles of lighting. Here are a few quick snaps from the workshop. Be on the look out for future fashion workshops, such as one on the 16th…sign up here.

Wednesday (April 14th): 7pm to 10pm

As a photographer you can increase your profit from a wedding, portrait assignment, model portfolio or fine art print by printing the work yourself and increasing the scale and size…

To offer this possiblity to members of the Carriage House Studio and Gallery, we now have on-line a brand new state of the art Epson 9900 wide carriage (44″) printer. The printer will produce photographic (or reproductions of paintings – glicee) in life size, or to full wall size! As you have seen in high end galleries, these large images sell for $1,000 or more… Of course we also continue to offer the Epson 3800 19″ printer for smaller size requirements (model or actor’s portfolios…)

With the top of line papers now available from Hahnemuehle, Ilford, and Crane Museo, you
can now offer you images to clients with the same archival quality used at the Corcoran Gallery and photographers such as Annie Leibovitz!

To keep the cost of printing attractive, and learn how to price and use this printing to maximum benefit, we have an experienced professional printer (Ashleigh) who will be providing instructional classes on how to use the printer.

Workshop Program:

The workshop is designed to teach you what you need to know to set up and operate a digital printer for your clients in wedding, portrait or fine art photography.

Completion of the workshop is a requirement to be able to use the on-site printers.

Topic covered include:

- Sizing, budgeting and pricing your prints for profit

- Profiling and preparing files for printing

- Choices of papers and other medium for printing

- Working with a master printer

- Operation and maintenance of the printer

- Participants should bring an image of their own on USB or disc to do a sample print.

Instruction will be with Epson 3880 and 9900 printers, capable of producing life size prints ( 3 ft by 5 ft / 4 ft by 6 ft, or custom dimensions).

Cost: $25 for workshop plus $10 materials fee.

Workshop Limited to 10 participants

We also hosted a genuine New Orleans Burlesque review with dancer/mode Zoya Pepel at our monthly Open House – as one of the the photographers present commented – “What are you going to do to top this!” Zoya was in such demand she is returning to Washington DC from June 8 to 12th, and is booking shoots (zoyapepel@gmail.com) at the studio for the very reasonable rate of $95/hr, which includes the use of the studio.
