The Carriage House Studio and Gallery is conducting a workshop is to produce quality fashion photography. i) a brief introduction to fashion photography
ii) finding and working with models, make up artists and hair stylists
iii) planning your shoot
iv) shooting with models using using strobes.
We will be using several models, lighting arrangements, on location in a historic townhouse with modernist furniture as props.
More information about the Carriage House studio and other workshops we are conducting is available at www.dcphotocoop.com.
Cost: $45 per person. Contact us to register for the workshop.
(We will limit participation to six photographers. We will receive and confirm participation in the workshop until we have the maximum quota of photographers, after which we will advise you that it is closed, and ask if you wish to be placed on the waiting list, to be notified in case of cancellation.)
The DC Photo Coop will be working with the Hunted House, a DC antique furniture boutique for future fashion shoots and events.
Here is a quote from the Washingtonian Magazine about the Hunted House:
“Fourteenth Street’s transformation into a furniture-store district continues with the opening of Hunted House, a vintage retailer that specializes in modern and art deco pieces from the 1920s to the 1970s.
Owner Mark Johnson, who used to be former DC Council Chair Linda Cropp’s press secretary, has long collected furniture. His hobby grew from outfitting his Columbia Heights house to selling pieces on Craigslist to running a stand at Eastern Market. When fire tore through Eastern Market in April, Johnson’s loyal following encouraged him to start his own shop.

The store, which opened two months ago, looks more like a rickety old house than a furniture store and that’s the idea. As opposed to a big open showroom, it feels like an actual house, says Johnson. It helps people visualize what the furniture might look like in their own home. Rooms are stocked with pieces Johnson finds at auctions and estate sales.”
DC Photo Coop is planning our first fashion workshop in conjunction with the Hunted House on February 25th. More details to come!

DC Photo Coop conducted the first figurative workshop today. We had a good turn out of 5 photographers with varying degree of photography experience shooting from a Canon Rebel Xti to Nikon D2x and even a Hassleblad. Having only 5 photographers on board allowed us to provide everyone with one-on-one help and assistance and I’m happy to say everyone got some good photos from the shoot.

The workshop lasted just over 3 hours and we worked with everything from strobe rim lighting to really dramatic hot lights. Furthermore, the model, Katia was just great. Such a natural and such a sport to brave the cold indoors. She’s Russian, so it helped.
DC Photo Coop will have a follow up printing session from this shoot middle of this coming week, either Tuesday or Wednesday, (it’s getting finalized at the moment). By then we should have some photos from this shoot as well.
If you like to attend any of our future workshops, please look under calendar for future events or email us and we can keep you posted.
A bit last minute, but since we got the website up, thought we should just put more info here.
This Friday, Feb 6th, we will hold a Fine Art Nudes Workshop. The workshop will be led by Paulo Francesco, many of his work you can find here. The workshop starts at 7:30 at our Carriage House location and will last 3 hours. We will have Katrina to model for us, (a couple photos of her will be posted later on).
Here is a brief list of what will be covered:
-Basics on getting a model, model/photographer etiquette with regards to fine art nudes
-Brief introduction to studio equipment and gear
- 2 Strobe lighting styled photoshoot setups for demonstration and practice shooting
- 2 Hot Lighting styled photoshoot setups for demonstration and practice shooting
Bring your cameras and lenses and get started with studio photography. We will also have other experienced photographers on hand to give you one-on-one help with camera settings, composition etc.
There will be a $15 nominal fee for the workshop and the workshop topics on the day may vary slightly due to time restrictions.
Please RSVP to ‘ info @dcphotocoop.com ‘ with your name and phone number if you are interested on coming.
