We hosted another successful and fruitful open house event this past Friday. This time, our theme was local networking with food provided by Azi’s Cafe and Wine by the local merchant. There were 10-15 photographers and 5-6 models as well as other MUAs and other locals.
We had three stations setup for people to photograph, furthermore, we also had portfolio exchange and critique sessions upstairs. Here are some of the shots we got.

We conducted the most recent of our Figurative/Fine Art Nude workshops last Wednesday, with the model Van den Budenmayer. She was very creative and well versed in some of the classics in this field of photography, such as Edward Weston, and Ruth Bernard, and it showed in her images. We used several different lighting set ups, and had great results. We plan to have similar workshops on a monthly basis. Here are a couple pics.

Paulo and I are organising model open calls now regularly on Tuesday to help new local models get started and get new portfolio pics. This Tuesday night event kicked off a couple weeks back and we have been getting a steady flow of new models. In the short couple hours at the studio, depending on the model’s interest, we will try to get a variety of shots for the models and we will definitely try to get something they can use for their portfolio.
Kamilah was one of the models who came to our Model Open Call. She’s actually a MAC MUA looking to get more work with photoshoots, but she also makes a brilliant model. Here is one of my quick snaps.

Open house event this FRIDAY for local photography and fashion networking. Local businesses, photographers, MUAs, Stylists, Designers all welcomed!
Friday from 7:30 onwards!
Due to popular demand, we will be running a workshop dealing with introdution to photography, letting you know what your camera is capable of and what all the buttons do. Here are a list of topics which will be covered.
1. DSLR and Lenses (functionality and variety)
2. Exposure and Lighting (aperture, shutter, iso)
3. Raw vs JPEG
4. White Balance
5. Aperture Play (Depth of Field, Sharpness)
6. Shutter Speed
7. ISO-noise/sensitivity
8. Aperture/Shutter Priority and Exposure compensation.
This course requires that you have a Digital SLR with lens. The workshop will last 2-3 hours starting at 7:30pm at our Carriage House location.
The workshop fee will be $45 per person.

We conducted our first Fashion workshop this past week working with Mark at the Hunted House. We were shooting on location with ambient lighting as well as multiple strobe lighting to experiment with various things. Five people attended the workshop bringing various skills and experiences. Furthermore, we went through the basics of fashion photography and what’s included na needed. Here are a couple photos from the shoot

DC Photo Coop had a very successful open house on the 20th. We had a big group of photographers, models and muas. It was a good social gathering with lots of networking, some photography and some good mulled wine flowing.
It’s great to see so much interest and potential in the Washington DC area. We will definitely keep in touch with everyone for future events and collaborations.
The Carriage House Studio conducted a workshop for women photographers on the female nude. Topics covered included the woman’s perspective on the female nude, working with the model, and lighting with natural, strobe and continuous lights. Individual photographers had the opportunity to work with Katya, the model, to give direction in posing in the studio. Some images produced at the workshop can be seen on this blog, and will be exhibited at the gallery in a future show.
