Rebecca Lawrence – January Feature Model!

Category: @ 7:00 pm

Fashion/Figurative/Fine Art Photo Shoot!

Time: 7 pm to 10 pm

Our January Feature Model will be Rebecca Lawrence, who is visiting from New York, after having spend most of last year in Europe.  Rebecca is an extremely versatile and creative model and it will be a pleasure to host her at the Carriage House for the first time. Rebecca is also a talented photographer, so the mini-shoot format we will use should result in some very interesting collaboration between model and photographer!  You can see her portfolio at http://www.modelmayhem.com/155507.  Come join us for a creative evening of photography and add some variety to your portfolio.

The format for this shoot will be a series of 6 different “looks” with alternative lighting set ups, each lasting about 30 minutes and giving each of the photographers opportunity to shoot and direct the model.

Rebecca will be staying at the Carriage House from the 10th to the 16th, so you can also book her for one on one shoots if you wish.

Workshop Fee: $125 (Includes Pocket Wizard, Model Release)

Workshop Reservation Fee/Deposit of $25 Required

Workshop Participation: Session Limited to 6 photographers. RSVP for this event to confirm your slot…

Figurative Art Sketch Night…for Photographers and Others!)

Category: @ 7:00 pm

New to the Carriage House in 2013, we will be hosting a monthly sketch night for artists and photographers. We will rotate locations between the Carriage House and Cattail Studio. (see the respective meetup groups for times/dates).

There are at least two reasons for being participating in this workshop; first to be able to distinguish what the camera photographs, and what you see in the human figure, and second, to gain a deeper understanding of the complexity of light and shadow in the figure.

Bil Brandt, photographer, once said… “When I began to photograph nudes, I let myself be guided by this camera, and instead of photographing what I saw, I photographed what the camera was seeing. I interfered very little, and the lens produced anatomical images and shapes which my eyes had never observed.”

“The human figure is a challenging subject.  It is a complex form of light and shadow, with subtle variations in color and texture, possessing both complex angles and smooth curves and all interacting in an endless variety of configurations.” A quote http://www.livemodelbooks.com/

Our in-house Painter-Mentor is Eric Westbook who will help guide and instruct when necessary, as well as help moderate the timing and model.

You can see Erick’s work at:

His ModelMayhem: http://www.modelmayhem.com/1628552

His Website: http://www.ericwestbrook.com/p1.html

Eric Westbrook is a professional painter, illustrator, and instructor living and working in Washington, DC. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelors degree in Graphic Communications and Studio Art. His paintings have been shown extensively in solo and group shows in and around the Washington DC area. Paintings are held in private collections as well as in the permanent collection of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.

Cost per person is $25. Feel free to bring all your supplies/easels/horse/etc.
